Tahosa Winter Fun at Camp Tahosa
Jan 8-10, 2010. TWO of the Lodges at Tahosa, near Ward, Colorado
Campmaster: Bruce Brown
Assistant Campmaster:
The troop will be leaving LCH on Friday, January 8 at 5:30 p.m. Please plan to arrive by 5:15 p.m. to help load gear. Be sure to download the list of personal gear provided - scouts need to bring winter-weather appropriate clothing, sleeping bag, ten essentials, and plenty of dry clothing. Be prepared for winter conditions when we arrive - plan to wear your boots and have a warm coat, hat, and gloves readily available.
Bring winter toys - sleds, backcountry skis, ice fishing equipment, etc.
Remember that scouts are expected to travel in full Class A uniforms.
We will return to LCH on Sunday, January 10 between 11:00 and noon.
January's Tahosa Winter Fun Weekend. For those who haven't participated at this annual event, we offer a weekend of fun in the wonders of Camp Tahosa. In the past, there have been opportunities for sledding, show-shoeing, cross-country skiing and just good old snow ball fighting! We have reserved 2 lodges at camp, so we offer the potential for a bunk. Both lodges have a wood-stove for heat, so though we are out of the elements, this is still high adventure lodging and you should be prepared for extreme winter weather conditions.
I am hopeful we will have a lot of Webelos participation. We are offering the $30 fee, each, for 2 nights, and cracker barrel Friday, all meals on Saturday and a continental breakfast on Sunday. For those who only want to come up for the day on Saturday, the fee is $10 for the day with lunch, $6 for the day without lunch. If anyone wants to deviate from the offerings, staying only one night with dinner, etc, please contact me.
Lastly, in previous years, we have been able to ice fish on the lake, however, due to the recent reconstruction of the dam gate and the lake re-filling as we speak, the lake will be off limits as the ice will be unstable. The sledding hill will be available, though we will need to make sure sledders stop at the lake's edge and do not go out into the cove. Shouldn't be a problem and hasn't been so far. If we have interest, I would like to see a snow shoe, cross county ski excursion, perhaps both and also if interested, a visit to the Okpik program. I am also attempting to organize a little different situation for dinner on Saturday night and will disclose those details as they become available, which will include a campfire program on Saturday night, so for those social scouts, start thinking of skits and songs.......
I will be at the next troop meeting with copies of the permission slips and a sign up sheet. Keep in mind, only those who have paid will be reserved for this weekend and typically this weekend sells out fast, so please sign up, pay the fee and look foward to a great time at Camp Tahosa.
